Yanks' Legend Jeter Does It Right
July 9th 2011 20:35
They just don't make 'em like Derek Jeter anymore.
The New York Yankees legendary shortstop racked up his 3000th hit in remarkable fashion Saturday afternoon, belting a solo home run off Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price.
Jeter became just the second player after Wade Boggs to hit a round-tripper for the milestone hit.
He also became just the 28th MLB player overall to achieve the feat.
Jeter, maligned for losing a step in his game the last year, squashed his critics for a day with an amazing five-hit performance.
The classy pro seized the day and used up the day like few other players can.
The Yankees needed every one of Jeter's hits, including his RBI single in the eighth, to hold off the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4.
Jeter has always been tight-lipped and careful with his words, but he admitted to feeling some relief after the game.
"It's something I'll remember my whole life," Jeter told YES Network reporter Kim Jones after the game. "It's something I never thought was possible, it's a lot of fun."
Jeter, the class act, earned an 'A' for his amazing performance Saturday and for his entire career for that matter.
