Tough Economy Hits Lakers Hard

There's something less special about the Los Angeles Lakers these days.
One of the proudest franchises in all of professional sports was unceremoniously dumped by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA playoffs and now word has come the tough economy has also taken a toll on the team.
The Lakers reportedly dropped 20 staff members over the weekend, including assistant general manager Ronnie Lester.
The assistant GM had been with the team for nearly quarter of a century and was credited for the team's pick up of big man Andrew Bynum.
The hits just kept coming, as the team also lost a performance coordinator, two video coordinators and in equipment manager, the latter who had been with the team since 1985.
If you don't think these moves hurt LA's depth you would be incorrect, as one man had experience working with Michael Jordan and another helped Kobe Bryant succeed.
Dropping the staffers will save some money, but it is also a clear sign the luster is off a bit from the team in La-La land.
