Sabathia Stinks It Up Vs BoSox
August 6th 2011 22:34
There has been little to complain about regarding Yankee pitcher CC Sabathia this season.
The Cy Young candidate is the main reason the Yanks are battling for first-place in the AL East, certainly not No. 2 starter A.J. Burnett or the rest of the team's patchwork rotation as good as it's been.
On Saturday, however, the CC is his first name was not for changeup, which he didn't utilize or for challenge batters, which he didn't do.
In one key situation against Marco Scutaro in the fourth inning, Sabathia threw five or six straight fastballs including one on a 2-2 count that was way off the plate.
I'm no genius, but I just knew that would prove to be a pivotal offering as Sabathia would have to give Scutaro something to hit with a full count.
He did, and Scutaro stroked the pitch up the middle for a key RBI single as the Red Sox went on to take a 7-3 lead over the Bombers.
A surprising result considering Sabathia came in with seven wins in his last eight starts with a remarkable 1.01 ERA.
Perhaps it shouldn't have been surprising Sabathia fared so poorly against Boston, as he came into the game 0-3 with a 6.16 ERA against the AL East rival this season.
It's still disappointing when your ace looks out of place in such a key spot, however.
