Phils, BoSox Lead Way In MLB's Super Six Rankings
August 9th 2011 11:14
Still no movement among top 3 teams in ranks as Phillies and Red Sox are clearly the top two teams in the majors. There is a gap between the top two clubs and other teams, though Yanks are still dangerous. (Records, ranks prior to Monday results).
1. Phillies (75-40) --- Took series vs. Giants, only losing when San Fran started Tim Lincecum … no shame in that. Winners of nine of 10, this team hasn't cooled off all season.
2. Red Sox (71-43) --- Took 2 of 3 from Yanks to solidify hold on No. 2 position in ranks. Has handled CC Sabathia all season, toppling the Cy Young candidate in Sunday night's rubber-match.
3 Yankees (69-44) --- .Scorching-hot until BoSox series and still victorious in 8 of last 10 games. Rotation has still held together well and lineup has held up even minus banged-up A-Rod.
4. Braves (67-49) --- .Thank goodness for the Wild Card, the Braves must say, otherwise Atlanta would have nothing to play for. That wouldn't be right, as team has been impressive particularly with its pitching and continues to handle Mets … what else is new?
5. Giants (63-53) --- Dropped 8 of 10, including losing series to fast-becoming bitter rival Philly. Lead over D-Backs has shriveled to just half-game and they slip another spot in ranks.
6. Rangers (65-51) --- Playing .500 ball of late, good enough to lead AL West by 1.5 games over the Angels, but not good enough to move up in this group.
Honorable mention: Brewers, Angels, D-Backs
Watch out for: Tigers.
