Moore, Shoppach Lead Rays Over Rangers In ALDS Game 1

October 1st 2011 00:20
Matt Moore was terrific in the American League Division Series opener, pitching the Tampa Bay Rays to a game one win by allowing just four baserunners over seven innings in a 9-0 rout of the Texas Rangers Friday.

Rangers starter C.J. Wilson was knocked around for seven hits and eight runs over just five innings.

His teammates mustered just a single and double by Josh Hamilton and two walks.

The Rays pounded out 10 hits, including three from Shoppach who homered twice and drove in five runs.

Evan Longoria also added two hits to continue his scorching play.

Shoppach homered in the third and fifth innings to add to the Rays' cushion.

Longoria homered twice vs. the Yanks in the regular season finale as the Rays returned to the postseason after overcoming a 7-0 deficit.

Johnny Damon blasted a two-run homer in the second to get the Rays off to a quick lead.

Brandon Gomes and Wade Davis pitched hitless relief in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively.

It's great to see you using Wikimedia Commons well man. I hope we can start commenting on eachother's blogs soon to drive up our views and all that good stuff. After all, that's what you heap, right? Anyway, I was really surprised with this game because I thought that CJ Wilson would be able to pull one out for the Rangers. My mistake, haha. There is a lot of parity in this year's playoffs, because there really isn't one totally dominating team (aside from perhaps the Phillies in the NL). Regardless, the AL is definitely going to be filled with enticing matchups, and your fingernails will suddenly disappear by November.
