MLB's Super Six Rankings
August 3rd 2011 00:39
Things are tightening up in the ranks with the Red Sox cooling off slightly and the Yanks heating up. New York and San Francisco flip-flopped, as the G-Men have lost four straight. (Records, ranks prior to Tuesday results)
1. Phillies (66-39) --- Winners of four straight even pick up a bat in Hunter Pence. Talk about the rich getting richer and a team looking to improve for the playoffs.
2. Red Sox (66-41) --- Just a game ahead of Yanks in AL East heading into Tuesday night's action. Hoped to improve staff with acquisition of pitcher Erik Bedard.
3 Yankees (65-42) --- .Won't let BoSox pull away in AL East thanks to Cy Young candidate CC Sabathia and clutch offense. Yanks are 15 games over .500 at home and moved up one spot in ranks.
4. Giants (61-48) --- Losers of four straight have just a one-game lead over D-Backs. Amazing that run differential is same with 384 runs scored to 384 runs against. G-Men hope to change that with pickup of Carlos Beltran, but slipped to No. 4 in ranks.
5. Braves (63-47) --- .Losers of 6 of 10 have fallen 7 games behind Philly in NL East. Struggled with pesky Nats Monday in 5-3 loss despite having ace Jair Jurrjens on hill.
6. Rangers (61-48) --- Sub .500 team on road at 26-27 is just 5-5 in last 10 games. Rangers hope trade for Mike Adams will shore up bullpen.
Honorable mention: Brewers, Angels, D-Backs
Watch out for: Tigers.
