Eli-te Manning? Giants Quarterback Is No Tom Brady
August 17th 2011 10:09
What is it about New York quarterbacks and running their mouths these days?
Is there something in that famous water that also produces some of the best bagels and pastries in the world?
First, Jets quarterback told GQ he wanted to "fight" coach Rex Ryan over nearly getting yanked from a game vs. the Fins last season.
Now Giants quarterback Eli Manning is trying to state the case he compares favorably to Patriots signal-caller Tom Brady.
"I consider myself in that class and Tom Brady is a great quarterback, he's a great player and what you've seen with him is he's gotten better every year and he started off winning championships and I think he's a better quarterback now than what he was, in all honesty, when he was winning those championships," Manning told ESPN Tuesday.
I have watched Tom Brady, I have seen him lead the Patriots to four Super Bowls, with three wins, and let me tell you something Eli Manning:
"You are NO Tom Brady!"
Perhaps Eli is swayed by the fact the Giants impressively broke up the Pats perfect season for Brady's lone setback in the big game, but the comparisons end there.
Brady, with 261 touchdowns to just 103 interceptions while successfully completing 63.6 percent of his passes, is already an all-time great.
Eli, meanwhile, isn't even the best quarterback in his family though that's no insult with the great Peyton Manning.
I hate to "pick", but Eli tossed an awful 25 interceptions last season and while his lifetime numbers are respectable (156-113) they are not even in Brady's league.
If Eli is trying to build up his confidence after a disappointing season in which he regressed behind center that is understandable.
But if he truly believes he is as good as Brady, however, he is downright delusional.
