Classy Emrick One 'Hall' Of A Hockey Broadcaster
August 3rd 2011 13:45
So many broadcasters work so many sports these days it is sometimes difficult to tell them apart
Not Mike Emrick, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame over the weekend.
Whether it's international competition or the NHL on NBC or New Jersey Devils games "locally", Emrick's voice goes with hockey like a lump of vanilla ice cream goes with apple pie.
Only Emrick, for instance, can include a word like "dancing" into his play-by-play and have it sound OK.
Unlike some broadcasters, OK Kevin Harlan in the NBA, Emrick isn't constantly in a state of breathless excitement.
But when the situation calls for it, Emrick gets plenty excited and has a solid goal call that can leave goosebumps.
Emrick and the perennial championship contending Devils are a great fit.
Much like Devs legendary goalie Martin Brodeur, Emrick has gotten the job done.
Emrick's Hall call was well deserved.
